Marshall Astoria Dual Combo

New to amps, would like to make a purchase, don't quite understand the difference between dual & single channel amps. They both have two inputs on the front usually hi & low, and some have a "send" & "return" on the back.

Also, If one is using effects boxes, would they plug their guitar into one of the inputs in the front, and then how is the configuration for the effects boxes using the loop of send & return along with an adjustable knob, like on the Marshall Astoria Dual Combo?

What is the differences between using input hi or low on the front of the amp, and which one is better for maximum use of the tube overdrive?

Thanks!

Hello Gary,

When an amplifier has two channels normally one is for clean playing and one is for overdrive/distortion which are normally switchable. Regarding the effects loop you would plug the guitar into the input of the amplifier then take a screened lead such as a guitar lead from the send, plug this into the input of your effects and take a screened lead from the output of the effects and plug the otherend into the return. Then you the mix control to blend the effected sound with the guitar sound.

On the Astoria Dual Combo, which is the overdrive input on the front and what do you mean, switchable? How does the two inputs differ between a two channel and single channel amp? - Gary T 19 Sep 2016 at 04:58 PM
The two inputs on the front of the amplifier marked high and low give you two levels of gain, the amplifier also has a footswitch which will allow you to switch between two levels of gain, it will also switch the effects loop on and off. You can download or view the handbook on the website which will give you all the information on the amplifier. - JOANNA GREEN 20 Sep 2016 at 07:34 AM
