Code Firmware Updater

I am running Windows 10 on a compatible laptop and get an error message when I try to run the Marshall update utility software. It occurs after a "verifying application requirements" window pops up. The error starts with "An unexpected error just occurred. Cannot create instance of main window"?

Any advice?

Steve

Hello,

We are sorry you are experiencing problems, please try the following

  • Start Windows Control Panel.
  • Select the 'Uninstall a program' option from the 'Programs' category. (You can search for 'uninstall' in the Control Panel search box if it is not displayed.)
  • Find the entry for 'Marshall Firmware Update Utility' in the list, click on it and then click on the 'Uninstall' option.  Click on the 'OK' button when prompted to remove the application.
  • Log in to your account on the My Marshall website.
  • Go to the 'Downloads' page.
  • Click on the 'Download' button.  You may be prompted to save the 'Setup.exe' file locally, in which case confirm this, along with the location if required.  The file location doesn't matter, so it could just be your Downloads folder.
  • Click on the downloaded 'Setup.exe' in the browser, or navigate to the local folder that it was saved to, and double click the icon.
  • Confirm installation of the application.
  • After a short time installing the necessary files, the application should start

Still experiencing same problems as OP after installation on a Windows 10 computer. Uninstall and install afterwards does not solve this issue - Nils Kleinohl 17 Aug 2016 at 08:35 AM

I also have the same issue, theoretically the ap installs but upon running it the same error message as the OP. If there is no timeline for it to be fixed then is possible to just get the actual firmware update itself or will it need the app to install on the amp?

I am experiencing the same issue.  Is the firmware update something critical to use?  It appears not everyone is experiencing this issue, so is it a Windows 10 thing?

Thanks,

RC

seems to work correctly now... will updating the firmware result in losing saved presets? - john bolier 14 Sep 2016 at 09:06 PM
updating the firmware should not have any affect on saved presets. - Marshall Amplification 15 Sep 2016 at 08:02 AM

Hi,
When I download setup.exe and start it comes back with the following:

An error occurred trying to download 'https://my.marshall.com/downloadfiles/firmware/MarshallFirmwareUpdateUtility.application'.
See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\Temp\VSDC08F.tmp\install.log' for more information.

yourname = your username,      .tmp file has a different name on every install attempt.

when you open the log and copy the URL address from the bottom and paste directly into the web browser  it will download the utility directly. install runs perfect after that.

https://my.marshall.com/downloadfiles/firmware/MarshallFirmwareUpdateUtility.application

I am using windows 10 , this might be the problem

Regards,

Remco

Bjoern Carstens
Hello Bjoern,
the error message looks like an issue with the connection strings section of your local machine.config file
Our tech department have taken a look and hopefully sorted the issue for you, could you please run the update utility again and let me know if it works OK for you?
