I run the two seperate channels (normal and boost) at max - all the levels are at ten, and I then use the master pres at 6 reverb 6 and then the volume to just dial in the volume level I like.
This way I can run bedroom or gig volumes on a JCM800!!
Question is - by having all the levels dimed and dialing in the volume I want via the Master am I cooking the amp too much. Running like this - even the clean channel even has some serious crunch.
Is this really just attenuating and should I worry about burnout?
Hi,
Thank you for your question , The way you describe how you are running your amp is fine.
The preamp will be working hard and the output stage not so much.
Preamp valves don’t wear out like output valves, so it won’t be an issue
