Hello Marshall Support Team,

I consider buying a Marshall Code 25 or 50, but I'm really concerned about the master volume problem with these amps, which has been discussed in length in this forum (see ? ? ? or ? ) [sorry,  seems the URL-links to the topics are deleted, the topics were "code-25---master-volume-issuses", "code-50-master-volume", "code-master-volume-issue" and "master-volume-marshall-code-50", all about the master volume knob, which goes from very low immediately to very loud].
In one of these threads you seem to acknowledge the problem and state, that your R&D team will look into this.

So here are my questions:
Is this problem solved with newer versions of these amps?
Does the problem show up regularly with all amps or does it affect only some devices?
Is there any chance to replace the Master Volume pot by myself  if the problem shows up after some time?

Thx in advance for you reply.
With regards - snoopy

1. Tilt knob - does it affect Treble (above  4khz frequencies) or Upper Mid (1khz - 3 khz) frequencies?

2. Does Master volume knob on this amp, if set to 10,  actually produce power amp (EL34s) distortion or is it just a control for the overall volume output (loudness) with no influence whatsoever on power amp distortion ???

Hi there! In my marshall CODE 50 there is a problem with the master control, it is like dirty and causes interference and noises, I can´t set volume level like before.  Should I clean it in a special way?  Should I take it with an expert?

Thanks!!!

It seems that all of us code owners has the same problem with the master volume, it's a double potentiometer vertically soldered to the board. I've measured my master vol pot, both pot vipers seems to miss contact from time to time when you turn the knob. So thats means to me a broken potentiometer. The surface inside the pot where the viper travels is partly broken. I noticed that the pot does not have anything to do with any software or firmware, so no firmware update will help here. So my question is where to buy a new master volume potentiometer for marshall code 50.  Best regards keep up the good work.

Hello TEAM MARSHALL.

I'm curious about something:

It only ocurred to me last night that maybe, just maybe, replacing the Master Volume (and in my case, on one of my five amps. also the Preset Volume) pot. with a new or replacement (generic, higher quality) pot. would solve this Master Volume issue once and for all.  So to this end I started scouring the Internet only to find that there is not a single supplier that I can find that supplies spares for the CODE amps.  There's spares for just about every other Marshall amp. known to man (including the MG series) but nothing, nada, for the CODE amps.  and this INCLUDES the Marshall store itself.  Your input and thoughts on this???

Also: how difficult would it be to obtain the specs. etc. of the amps. e.g. what are the specs. of the pots. (particularly the Master Volume and Preset Volume pots.)???

Regards,

Dale.

Hi

on my Code25 there is very loud backround noise. When I set some preset (at least some with some gain on it) it starts infernal humming and rattling. If I turn master volume up, it increases and if I put it down, it decreases. It’s extremely annoying and infact makes me not to use amp at all.

is this something it should be or is my amp faulty?

Hi everyone!

Recently I bought Marshall CODE 25 and it's a great amp but I have one little problem with it.

There is a problem with MASTER potentiometer. I noticed that when I set it between 0-0.99 it is very very quiet but when I set it about 1.0 it becomes very loud. And in the effect it is very hard to play at "bedroom" volume levels. I must say that I'm disappointed - I had Yamaha THR 10 previously and it could play very well at every volume and it could play very quiet.

So to sum it up, is this some general issue with all CODE amps or something is broken in mine? Maybe master potentiometer needs repair?

Hi, after playing some JCM900's and 800's, I obtained a slightly battered JMP 2203, serial number 05027M.

This points to production year 1980.
Can anybody tell me the difference between the 1978, 1979 and 1980 incarnations of the JMP 2203?

And in addition; when relacing the valves, which types and brand should I use?

While we're at it... Where could I obtain the origonal schematics for my amp?

Thanks in advance!

Bye, Ward
