The first time I turned on the amp and plugged in, there was a very loud screeching noise from the amp. I had to turn it off immediately. Any idea why that haappened?

Thank you for your comment, we would suggest the amp is looked at by an engineer to get it checked over, without knowing the model or seeing the amp its hard to say what the issue could be.
