Using multiple effects pedals

Are the effects pedals mutually exclusive? It seems like you can't have distortion and compressor (for example), at the same time. Is this right?

Yes, that's right. You can use only one effect of each section. For example in MOD section you can't simultanously use phaser and flanger.

You can have one of each of the 4 food groups on at once. 1. Reverb 2. Modulation (flanger chorus, phaser) 3. Delay 4. Distortion. But you cannot use two different items from the same group. like having two different distortions or a flanger and Tremelo. So, you can have distortion, reverb, delay, and reverb. but only one of each. - Floyd Benson 26 Mar 2024 at 11:06 PM

Pretty common on many amps/FX units.
