headphone use with emulated output in the DSL20HR

Hi Marshall,

I just purchased the DSL20HR and 1912 lead cabinet, which is great. However, there are late nights that I want to play through my headphones.

I read the manual and I read the previous questions on here about headphone use. There's conflicting instructions and support advice between the manual and what I have read here.

Can you please clarify step by step how to safely plug a set of headphones into the emulated output jack of the DSL20HR? The manual says to "NEVER use the DSL20HR...without a speaker load", however,  advice here from the Marshall team had stated to unplug the cabinet from the amp, plug in the headphones, and then not to forget to plug the speaker back in when done using the headphones.  This is conflicting and I am afraid to try either.

Please help. Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam

The DSL20 should not be used without a speaker connected.
To use it for silent recording or headphone use, the amp should be switched to standby.
In standby mode the preamp and headphone amplifiers are still active, but the power amp is switched off, silencing the speaker.
