Monitor ANC II unable to connect to app or hardware reset

Hi, I just received these today and the app refuses to find them. I am unable to perform and kind of hardware/factory reset and as someone in the software department has decided that the firmware can only be updated through the app this kind of begs the question - if I need to update the firmware to potentially get the app to find them then how would anyone reasonably be expected to do this?

Also how do I do the reset? I have tried the holding in of the M button and control knob for 7 seconds and nothing happens. Is this still the current method? If not is there another one?
