Dear Marshall team:

I use the Code 25 amplifier, with the Gateway app and the Code series footswitch. The firmware is updated with the latest version available.

For a long time I have been noticing certain problems, mainly:

-The preset settings are changed on their own (sometimes the volume, other times the gain...) They are usually changed to the settings on the control knobs. I load the preset again, and after a while some of the settings are changed again.

-Another problem is that after using a preset for a while, when changing to another it does not change (it stays blocked). It does not respond either by using the pedal or by changing the preset from the app I have to turn off the amp. At first I thought it would be a Bluetooth problem, since I was using the Gateway application, with an iPhone. But now I'm using it with an Android phone and I continue to have the same problems.

Waiting for your comments, receive a cordial greeting.

I am new to electric and got this amp from a friend. Love the external features, but hate when my phone audio is always blasting when choosing cloud presets.

In case Marshall decides to do another round of Codes, or for people that want to buy one, here is my bottom line after dealing with this thing for a few years. I had Line 6 experience and wanted a simpler all-in-one modeling combo with a bluetooth app that could do hard rock. The Katana looked like a toy so I bought this.

PROS: Solid construction. Looks great. Good range of amps and effects. Bluetooth app is very good and can tune every parameter. Tones can be downloaded and backed up to/from Marshall site. Amp can sound very good (after a lot of tweaking). The Plexi, American OD, JTM Crunch and Acoustic amps are good. The Guv’nor, Compressor, Chorus, noise gate and all the delays and reverbs are useable. Marshall has done sufficient software updates to correct early issues (bluetooth, tones, bugs). Can be used at bedroom volume with Master on ‘1’. Optional footswitch gives good control. Documentation is good. Updater software on PC works well.

CONS: Other than those mentioned above, all the other amps and effects are bad. This includes the JCM800, JVM and Silver Jubilee. All the cabs are bad. None of the stock patches are usable. You have to make your own. There are user uploaded patches you can try but very few are usable. Learning curve is significant. The amp is too loud. When you turn up from bedroom level to louder, the sounds change and become very boomy which should not happen with a modeling amp. No effects loop. The ‘out’ is a mini USB. Connecting to a computer requires a mini USB to USB or Lightning cable, which is not included. I tried to use the USB to record to Garageband and sound came out but I couldn’t make it sound good. The footswitch also has a learning curve, and like other people I had to have mine replaced.

ADVICE: Don’t buy it. I bought my Code 50 new from Sweetwater for $299 and now the same version of the amp is $399. If you must have a Code, get the 25 instead. It is cheaper and still absurdly loud. The higher volume available in the 50 is useless because it sounds bad. The extra hundred bucks just gets you painfully loud solid state power amp watts.

If you do get a Code, upgrade all the firmware immediately. You need to connect to a computer to do this, but first you have to find the cable on Amazon. This is unforgivable.

BOTTOM LINE: I have spent too many hours tweaking the Code. This is what I hated about Line 6. But the Line 6 tones were superior. I never got a good JCM 800 sound out of the Code, after hundreds of hours of work. It’s only “great” amp sim, oddly, is the American OD. Marshall’s own Classic Metal patch uses this, not a “Marshall” sim! The Code is marketed as Marshall technology with amp sims created by Marshall, but it is not. Softube created the software and tones. This is not a Marshall amp. Line 6 Marshall sims are far better.

I have now bought a tube amp. I am keeping the Code because I have mastered it and can practice on it but I would not buy it again, certainly not for $399.

Suddenly, Bluetooth stopped working right on my phone (Huawei P series)  while I'm playing...  Amp is updated to latest version and every time i want to change preset surprise! The phone is unpaired, it needs to reconnect again... but guess what? Now the screen on my code start blinking, not red or the buttons either, but it blinks like if loosing power or something... I don't know if it might be an electrical issue or it's just a lose cable inside that needs a check.

I am having difficulty getting my Code 50 to connect via bluetooth so I can transfer presets that I like to the amplifier. A forum post response suggested that opening a new page in Chrome and inserting "chrome://flags/#use-winrt-midi-api" will do the trick. I tried on both a Windows 10 and Windows 11 machine and nothing came up. I also searhed inside the new page and it came up empty. Is there another way to do this, or am I doing something wrong?

I turned on bluetooth on my  phone then initiated the bluetooth feature on my code100. find the amp in the It found the amp on my phone so I connected to it and the blue light on the amp quit flashing indicating that they are synced together. When I open the gateway app on my android phone (samsung S20E) it will not find the amp in the menu section of the app. I see the blue tooth symbol there with the word CODE next to it and it says not connected. There is nothing next to the Amps Detected: and when I scan for an amp it turns gray for a few seconds and then back to green. Same thing when i switch between the phone and amp icon in the bottom left corner. when on the phone icon i have presets when I switch to the amp Icon I get nothing displayed. I do have audio .from phone to amp and that s what it says in the blue tooth section in my phone. It says that the code V020150FDU connected for audio

This issue is driving me crazy. My Code 50 used to work with my iphone and ipad, now it refuses to connect and I always get the above message.

I have performed the following:

1. Forgot bluetooth connection on both devices

2. Deleted iphone app and re-installed.

3. Re-paired and tried to connect with same issues,

4. Formed factor preset of amp with no luck.

I know the blueotth connects as I can play music through my amp from phone, I just cannot connect to update any presets.

Any solutions would be greatfully received, am getting so frustrated with this product.

Salve!
Qualche suggerimento? Sto usando Crome aggiornato con smartphone Android.
Grazie.

I have successfully saved presets to my iPhone and can play them using the bluetooth pairing.

What is the best way to permanently transfer or sync them from the iPhone to my Code 50 amp?

Hi, I just recieved my Code 50 yesterday "bought brand new" and the amp sounded great until i hooked up to my pc this morning and downloaded a featured preset not a communiy preset. I am running usb not bluetooth and its my studio setup. Now all the distortion and gain sounds like the input gain is wide open clipping the signal coming in at all volume levels, and on all distortion and od gain presets. I tried to reset the amp and did a firmware update now its litterally so bad you cant play it. This is certainly a software issue cause the effects and clean tones sound fine. This happened immediatley after i sent the preset usb from the website to the amp from the pc. Also i tried several guitars, usb cables, guitar cables and even my mac. just dont know wether i should send it back or if thiscan be fixed with a firmware patch or something , Thanks

I have had a chance to spend a few days with the Marshall code 25 and I would like to share with you a few of my findings. I have played guitar professionally for over 30 years and have had all makes and models of guitars and amps in my time, but in general I would have killed for the equipment available to guitarist today.

This is the point where I look at the Code 25 and think “that looks like fun”. I have a few amps kicking about already, mostly gigging volume amps but I also have a Blackstar ID-Core 40, so this would be in reality what I would compare the Code 25 against.

Firstly my experience with the amp and a look around these forums makes one thing apparent. This amp is well named because it is a bit of an enigma.Out of the box I would consider the amplifier not fit for purpose this is really down to a few reasons.

Firstly, some of the presets are just absolutely terrible, I mean some of the worst patches I’ve ever heard on anything, “Small combo” and the “Brit” overdrive amps for instance are shockingly bad. You can make the excuse that all amp and effects units come with bad presets. However this is usually down to strange or weird effects to give bizarre sounds to show off effects but that nobody would ever use in a musical context. However some patches (such as Small Combo) are just basic amp modelling with no effects and are still absolutely terrible. Maybe these sound better on the 50 or 100, but if that’s the case remove them from the 25 it just gives a bad impression.

Secondly, the amp is stupidly loud. I don’t know if this is a marketing decision, but Marshall should look at its target demographic. This thing is a small bedroom practice amp, maybe at a push for some very small live situations, but that is it. Why make the thing so loud? If you need to use this amp near anything over half volume you have bought the wrong amp it’s as simple as that.

Thirdly, some of the modelling is not all it could be with digital artefacts (in the low end in particular), and a fizzy noise gate that for some reason is on patches where there is absolutely no need to have it as the patch is pretty quiet. Once again this is not a professional gigging or recording product and it should be judgged accordingly.

The last bad point I would say against this amp is the tuner, both onboard and on the app are two of the least responsive and wildly inaccurate tuners I have ever seen. Really not even close to tune! Put this down to another marketing tick box.

OK, now the good points.

It seems pretty well made and solid for what it is.

I like the size and weight, ideal for a bedroom practice amp.

I like the complete range of controls on the amp, and how you can do everything on the amp that you can do on the app, and it’s easy to do. Great user interface design work.

I like the Bluetooth features and the app. I know people have had problems with Bluetooth, but both my IOS and Android phones connected right away and are stable. I can stream music no problem from outside the house or in other rooms with no issues.

I like having 100 presets to store all the patches I could want (My Blackstar only had 6, and you can only have 1 for each model).

The headphone socket sounds OK, but if I wanted that as a primary feature I would have just bought headphone amp with effects.

I don’t use the recording over USB feature. If I did I wouldn’t expect something this cheap to be amazing. Once again if you want this you probably have bought the wrong product, and are in the wrong price bracket.

I like the cost, its amazing what it does for the money.

I like the sounds, now that I’ve got rid of the awful ones.

It looks pretty cool.

It’s a Marshall.

To make this amp useable, I basically had to do the following:

  1. Delete all those terrible patches that are just filler and basically just give the user a bad experience. After doing this I was left with around 20 good sounding patches and 20 OK patches, the other 60 I replaced with a patch called “Blank” (which I have put up on this site). That way every patch sound good to me.
  2. I turned the Mater volume up to ¼ (around 9 o’clock)  and went through the remaining patches adjusting the patch volume of each to make it a sensible volume for bedroom levels. This ranged from around 0.3 to 5 for most patches depending on the patch. This means that you have more control over the master volume and can change patches without is suddenly blowing you head off. There is still plent of volume in the amp after doing this. OK I admit if I want to use headphones I have to turn the master up around half way, but that’s no big deal. Likewise as I said I don’t use the USB for recording, but I assume I would have to turn up the volume for that too. I don’t see that as a problem either for a product in this price range.

Overall I like the amp and doing just these 2 thing make it much more of a pleasure to use. The volume level are more what they should be for a product of this type and I don’t ever hear any of the awful patches (there are plenty of good ones).

Maybe other people can share their first experiences or tips with the Code 25?

I have a Marshall Code 50 running MCU version 1.44 and Gateway (Android version 1.5.5) on a Samsung Galaxy S9+ running the latest OS. I can bluetooth pair to the amp and play music, but can not connect to the amp to change my presets from the library.  I have reloaded the latest firmware on the amp, deleted and reinstalled the Gateway app, paired and unpaired several times.  Nothing seems to work.  I even grabbed my old Galaxy S7 Edge phone and that Gateway app on it does the same thing.  Does my amp need to be serviced for Bluetooth connectivity?

The first issue was no bluetooth communication with my Ipad. I now use a Kindle fire and it's working great. Now I will be playing a preset and the volume drops out to almost nothing. Has anybody discovered a fix? This is a Code 25 I really want to love this amp because when it works it's great. The problems it has are making me fall out of love fast. I expected a lot more from Marshall, I have almost all Yamaha product and never have problems.

I just received a Marshall Code 25 as a gift and I am new to guitar playing and using an amp. So I have 2 questions actually.

1. In the User Presets section, what does the X over the amp (code not available) exactly mean?

2. I managed to connect the bluetooth on my iphone with the amp, and it works fine, but everytime I turn my amp and the app on my phone on, my amp doesn't show in the amp. So I end up having to sync the bluetooth every single time I turn it on, let it search for my amp, and then I can get started. Is there some reason why my amp doesn't stay in the app?

I own the Marshall CODE 100H and CODE 212 cabinet.

I really love this amp, but I find the MY GATEWAY web page interface to be somewhat awkward to use.

The following are issues that I would like to see changed.

All references to the MY LIBRARY list are referring to the list below the MY GATEWAY List on the MY GATEWAY web page.

1) On the My GATEWAY web page, the preset list at the top is arranged by columns (as it should be), but the MY LIBRARY list below that is arranged by rows.

This makes it very awkward to find a preset in the MY LIBRARY section.

The MY LIBRARY section should be arranged by columns as well.

2) There is no indication in the MY LIBRARY section on the MY GATEWAY tab whether a preset is or isn’t in the MY GATEWAY list.

This makes it awkward to know which presets from the MY LIBRARY are used in the MY GATEWAY

I would suggest adding the MY GATEWAY preset number to the MY LIBRARY list as the indicator.

3) There is no indication in either list whether a preset has been Modified or is a Factory Preset

(must copy to MY LIBRARY section below and then edit to know if it was changed-not as convenient as it could be if it was marked as Factory Preset or Modified in the list)

4) There is no way to compare presets in the MY GATEWAY list vs the same named preset in the MY LIBRARY list.

(And a preset can be changed in the mobile app or on the amp and synced to the web,

but the change doesn’t get applied to the same named preset in the MY LIBRARY list,

so the MY LIBRARY presets become inconsistent with the same named preset in MY GATEWAY.

And, there’s no indication that the same named preset in the MY GATEWAY list is now different from the MY LIBRARY version.

Must be constantly manually checking / updating the MY LIBRARY list.

There should either be a “Date Changed” field in the Edit Preset dialog box so you can know which one is the most recent, or

There should be a prompt or checkbox to update the MY LIBRARY preset as well.

There should be a way to select two presets and then select “Compare”.

The compare screen should highlight the differences.

5) Renaming a preset in the MY GATEWAY section doesn’t also rename it in the MY LIBRARY.

Requires either deletion of the preset in the MY GATEWAY list and re-addition of the renamed preset,

or edit same named preset in both lists.  There should be a prompt or checkbox to update the MY LIBRARY preset as well.

6) Multiple presets can be named the same thing but have different configurations (really bad idea!)

This makes it hard to know which one is the most up to date.

This should be prohibited.

Copying a preset to the Library should pop up a warning message that a preset with that name already exists, and ask to replace or rename it differently.

7) Preset settings can only be  viewed / edited in the MY LIBRARY section but not the MY GATEWAY section.

This means that you have to copy a preset from the MY GATEWAY list to the MY LIBRARY section first.

Then hunt down where it went in the MY LIBRARY list in order to edit it, Edit it, and then copy it back to the MY GATEWAY list.

That seems to be a lot more awkward than it ought to be. It should be possible to view or edit preset settings from either list.

8) It would be nice if a preset could be marked as a favorite.

9) It would be nice if all Factory Presets had audio preview samples.

10) It would be useful to have a way to record a short audio sample via bluetooth on the mobile app and then be able to save it automatically to SoundCloud and add the url to the preset.

11) Where do I find backing tracks for to use with the amp?

I recently purchased a CODE 25 and love it. In the Gateway app I see a different list of presets when connected via Bluetooth versus not. Any suggestions of how to correct?

When not connected I can see presets like Purple Plexi and Sweet Jubilee. Would like to check them out.

Thank you.
